Vaping for Beginners: A Handy Guide

Vaping for Beginners

Are you a beginner in the vape world or vape curious and not sure where to start or what the vape terms are? We have compiled a handy beginners guide: Vaping for Beginners that contains info on the tools or devices you need to know about and what they do, in order to make your vape experience the best it can be.

So…what is vaping?

Vaping is the inhaling of a vapor created by a battery operated electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) or other vaping device. They have flavor filled liquid cartridges that contain nicotine and chemicals. The liquid is heated into a vapor, which the person inhales or vapes.

E-cigarettes

E-Cigarettes or Vaporizers are alternative devices to smoking tobacco cigarettes by vaporizing propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavorings and nicotine into an  “e-liquid” that is vaped. If the device is modified from a traditional device, these are commonly called Mods.

 E-cigarette Anatomy

So there are some commonalities between e-cigarettes – all vape devices use a battery of some sort – usually a lithium battery to heat a wire coil that is in the device. A wick is used to draw the liquid into the coil and when heated the liquid vaporizes and can be inhaled like you would from a cigarette – the benefit is there are no harmful toxins that would normally be found in a traditional cigarette and with the addition of flavor to the experience, you can customize your liquid.

The Vape Device

Devices come in a wide variety of colors and shapes – this is where the experience can be uniquely yours depending on what type of device you want to hold. Some look like  traditional cigarettes while others might resemble a pen, a tube, a box, but they all serve the same purpose – to deliver power from the battery to the atomizer.

The Battery

Simply, the battery supplies the power. This is an important feature because if the battery does not last as long as the juice in your cartridge or pod then you have wasted juice. Most batteries are rechargeable now to limit this from happening, but not all so keep in mind the amount of puffs per device – does it match the longevity of the battery.

The Atomizer

Atomizers are heat resistant and are where the coil or wicks are found partnered with a reservoir to hold the liquid you vape. There are many types to choose from that have a bunch of different purposes or functions so do a bit of research before you purchase as its not a one size fits all sort of scenario.

Coils

These are small wires that are coiled to resemble a spring. The resistance in the coil will determine the amount of electricity from the battery and how much heat it will produce. The type of wire used, the diameter of the coil and the number of wraps will all effect the coil’s resistance.

E-liquid

Commonly known as juice, this liquid can come in a variety of nicotine strengths. Keep in mind that if you want to experience the flavor from the juice – the higher the nicotine strength, the less flavor you will experience. Also keep in mind that its not recommended to go above 18 mg/ml when starting out but smokers switching to e-cigarettes normally vape higher nicotine levels and decrease as they vape in order to taste the flavor more effectively.

Wicks

Wicks are traditionally made from cotton, twisted silica cor, ceramic or stainless steel mesh and carry the liquid to the coils where it is vaporized.
